A Team-Based Approach to Cardiac Care
Exceptional cardiac care is rarely the work of a single individual.
At Sawgrass Veterinary Cardiology, we use a collaborative care model where board-certified cardiologists work alongside residents, interns, and experienced veterinary nurses. During your visit, you may interact with several members of our team, each contributing their expertise to your pet’s evaluation and care.
This approach means your pet’s case benefits from multiple trained professionals reviewing information, discussing findings, and ensuring no detail is overlooked. While a resident, intern, or nurse may conduct parts of your appointment, every patient receives oversight from a board-certified cardiologist who reviews diagnostics, confirms recommendations, and directs treatment decisions.
For many clients, this team-based approach provides an additional layer of expertise and attention, helping us deliver comprehensive and compassionate cardiac care for every patient we see.
Ella's Story
Our 6 y/o mixed breed dog Ella was recently diagnosed with early stage DCM. Due to lack of knowledge about this disease, we were left feeling helpless and uneasy, not knowing what to expect. We made an apt with Dr. Carpenter for a second opinion and to get more information.
Everyone was so nice and friendly and put us at ease. We stayed with our dog the entire time while the team performed several tests, including a complete echocardiogram. After the tests, the team discussed the findings amongst themselves. Afterwards, Dr. Hertzer, who was absolutely amazing, spoke with us at length about the findings. He put our minds at ease by providing an abundant amount of information and educating us about how the heart works so that we could better understand the suspected disease. We are so grateful to Dr. Carpenter, Dr. Hertzer and the entire team.
